A BIG THANK YOU to LION'S CLUB INTERNATIONAL

and gifted surgeons.

Chloe has successfully completed two Corneal Transplants.

This photograph was taken by Chloe's son Jay Souza in England.

Jay Souza (gifted singer/songwriter at RJ BLOKE and Patrolled By Radar Band) accompanied his mother to London to help deliver her paintings to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. While there they visited many nearby cities.

This painting is no longer available.
Model is Jessica Gaffney with family pet Molly at their home in New Hampshire.
I met Jessie the day she was born. . . she's a wonderful artist's model.

"Beautiful Dreamer"

Chloe lost her eyes when she was bitten by a brown recluse spider as she slept one night.  Pain caused her to pack her face with frozen peas and go to emergency where she was immediately hospitalized and on the 37th morning she was unable to see and had lost her eyes, her thyroid, was very sick and not expected to survive.
She was sent to Proctor Eye Research Center at UCSF every week for three years, transferred to Doheny Eye at USC for the corneal transplant program.  She was on the program for seven long years but never received a transplant because of a weakened immune system.
She graduated Blind School, continued to work in the art field and discovered she created with her heart and not with her eyes.
"Beautiful Dreamer", a bronze on polished granite stone was created with her fingertips in clay based on her memory of a patient she met at Proctor who died of AIDS.  Chloe did not know that AIDS patients often go totally blind.
Heartbroken and very sad, when she cast this bronze, a memorial stone, a diamond earring was mounted in the ear and the matching earring was given to the lover who was left behind.

This photo was taken at Morning Glory Cottage (on Crespi) in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.  The hedge seen throught the window separates Chloe's cottage from famous actor Patrick McGoohan (The Prisoner Series).  Patrick and his wife Joan lived next door and frequently Chloe met their many famous and charming house guests.
"Columbo" was often there and Chloe met Met Gibson when he walked thru the backyard hedge while she was sculpting in alabaster.  He was writng the script to "The Passion of the Christ".  Chloe offered to stop but he said he rather liked hearing the chinking sounds as he wrote, said they served as inspiration.  Chloe actually wept when she saw the movie and heard the chinking in the sound track.
This charming story and others are in her book "Rear Elephant, etc".

Chloe was in Paris for a booksigning of the trio of nonfiction books based on her youth while growing up in the south. Little Southern Stories.
This photo was taken at "Charlotte's Tea Room" on Isle Saint Louis in Paris, France by her dear friend Corinne.  Actually, this was the first day the corneal transplant began to reject and was completely gone within one week.  Chloe's overall weakened immune system from the spider bite caused the rejection.
